3D printed #T-Bird Nation logoSUU offers many resources to help you prepare for registration, but if you’ve never used them before it can be hard to know where to start. This guide explains the basic tools necessary to put together your next class schedule so that registering will be a breeze!

DegreeWorks

Every degree at SUU has specific requirements that need to be met in order to graduate. You can find these requirements in Degree Works, which is accessed through your mySUU Portal under the ‘Resources’ dropdown menu. Think of Degree Works as a checklist–it tells you exactly what classes you need to take, how many credits you still need to complete and what you have already completed. The goal is to turn every empty red circle into a green check mark. Once all check marks are completed, you’re ready to graduate!

Degree Works is a great tool for deciding what classes to take next and making sure you stay on track for graduation. If you navigate to the ‘Plans’ tab and click ‘New plan,’ you can create a roadmap for which classes to take each semester. You can create plans by yourself, or you can meet with your Academic Advisor who can help you create a plan. Plus, creating a plan in Degree Works makes registration a breeze, but more on that later.

Registration Schedule Builder

All students at SUU register through the Registration Schedule Builder. You can find it in your MySUU Portal at the top right corner. After opening the schedule builder, select the semester you want to register for.

Once you confirm the semester, it will ask you all the campuses you want to pick classes from. This will make sure you only see course offerings that interest you and work with your schedule. For example, if you select ‘Main Campus,’ you will see course offerings that are in-person on SUU’s campus. If you select ‘Online Campus,’ you will see courses offered online. Select how you want to attend and hit ‘save and continue.’

Building Your Schedule

If you have created a Degree Works Plan by yourself or with your Academic Advisor, follow these steps to get your schedule prepped and ready to go for registration day.

  1. Open Registration Schedule Builder, accessed through the MySUU Portal.
  2. Click on the ‘Add Course’ button.
  3. Select the ‘Degree Works Plan’ tab to add your premade plan to your registration schedule builder.
  4. Hit the ‘Done’ button.
  5. Click the ‘Generate Schedules’ button, which will give you all the different days and times the courses you’ve selected are offered.
  6. Pick which schedule combination works best for you.

If you are registering and building a schedule from scratch, follow these steps to get ready for registration day.

  1. Open Registration Schedule Builder, accessed through the MySUU Portal.
  2. Click on the ‘Add Course’ button.
  3. From there, you can find and add classes. You can search for classes by subject, instructor, course name, or Course Registration Number (CRN)
  4. Once you’ve added all your classes, click the ‘Done’ button
  5. Click the ‘Generate Schedules’ button, which will give you all the different days and times the courses you’ve selected are offered.
  6. Pick which schedule combination works best for you.

Once you’ve settled on your next schedule, click ‘Send to Shopping Cart.’ This is where your selected schedule for next semester will live until it’s your registration day.

The Day of Registration

At 8 a.m. on your registration day, go to your Shopping Cart in the Registration Schedule Builder and hit the ‘Register’ button. Once it goes through, you’ve registered for next semester! Find your registration date.

Extra Help

If you are unsure about what classes to take and want additional help, try to meet with your academic advisor as soon as possible. Your academic advisor knows exactly what classes you must take to help you stay on track for graduation. If you haven’t declared a major yet, your advisor can also tell you about course offerings that may suit your interests.

Running Into Issues While Registering?

Is one of the classes you tried to register for full? Did you receive a prerequisite error? Stop by the Advising Office to receive help. Your advisor will most likely offer walk-in hours on registration day and can help you figure out a solution. You can also stop by The Nest where the ACES can help remedy issues with your schedule.

Registration can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be. If you prepare now, you’ll only have to press the ‘Register’ button on your designated registration day. You got this, T-Bird!
