Southern Utah University, Cedar City. Classes are held across campus to give students a sense of University life.

Completed homework, a lunch or lunch money, a pencil and pen, and backpack to carry materials.

You are responsible to provide transportation to and from SUU PREP each day for your child. Many parents work together to carpool (we will provide contact sheets for those interested).

Year One: Logic and Its Application to Mathematics, Introduction to Engineering, Problem Solving I

Year Two: Algebraic Structures, Introduction to Physics, Problem Solving II

Year Three: Computer Science, Technical Writing, and Probability and Statistics.

All students participate in Career Awareness Seminars and have the option to attend Friday Field Trips.

Each child will be allowed three absences total for the program, not including Fridays, which are optional. Students are expected to make up work they have missed.

Note: SUU PREP is a challenging, rigorous, academic program and the fewest absences possible is optimal for student achievement and learning.

Three tardies count as one absence.

SUU PREP’s intensive curriculum moves quickly and students will fall behind if they even miss one day. Each student will be allowed 3 absences before dismissal from the program.

Please do not apply if you expect your child to miss more than 3 days.

To optimize learning for all students, a strict policy on obedience and cooperation is maintained. Participants may be dismissed from the program for any of the following: cheating, bullying, disrespectful behavior, disregard for written or verbal rules, not following campus rules, etc.

Please review the Code of Conduct for complete expectations.

Study Hall and regular classroom time can be used to complete assigned work. If students use this time wisely, they will rarely have homework.

Because the homework is advanced math and science, we cannot guarantee that all parents will be able to help their children. We HIGHLY recommend the student take notes in class to take home both for homework help and to study. Students will be given support in class from teachers and Program Assistants, as well as time in a Study Hall class to ask for help. We strongly encourage students to ask for help when they need it!

Students may miss Friday Field Trips if they miss or do not complete 3 or more assignments to allow them time to complete those assignments.

If missing and incomplete assignments are habitual, the student may be put on probation until the parents meet with a SUU PREP leader.

The teacher nomination is an application requirement. Each student is required to provide the name and email address of a core teacher. We will ask that teacher to complete a survey rating the student regarding academic performance, conduct in class, willingness to participate in class, maturity, punctuality, eagerness to learn new things, etc.

We will have a limited number of spaces for Years 2 & 3 for highly motivated students who are willing to catch up on content from Year 1 & 2. If you are interested in learning more, please email cecs@suu.edu.

Yes! We only accept online applications.

To submit the application, you will need the following items:

  • Your most recent grades
  • Student Essay, 100-200 words, in reply to the question "Why do I want to attend PREP?” (We suggest typing it out, revising, and then copy/pasting into our site when you are ready to apply.)
  • Teacher email address to which a nomination form will be sent. The teacher's response will be sent back directly to the PREP Director.

We will review applications submitted in March and then every two weeks thereafter until all placements are filled.
