SUBJECT: Graduate Studies: Capstone


I. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Policy is to provide policy guidelines for Capstone activities in graduate studies.

III. DEFINITIONS

  1. Capstone: A graduate student thesis, project, internship, or equivalent experience at the culminating level.

IV. POLICY

  1. General
    1. Graduate programs are not required to have a Capstone.
    2. All copyrights to papers prepared in the Capstone belong to the student-author.
      1. Some Capstones may contain proprietary information from the student's work with a business or organization. This information will be removed in the final document in order to protect privacy and maintain healthy relationships between the University and various publics.
  2. Capstone Supervisory Committee
    1. Graduate Capstones can be supervised by a single faculty member or by a Capstone Committee.
    2. For programs that require a Capstone that includes a Capstone Committee, the graduate Program Director or designee will determine the composition of the committee, timing, and other expectations.
  3. Storage and Publication
    1. Capstones may be submitted in digital format and stored at the SUU Library. A program/department may have additional requirements for storing papers arising from a Capstone.
    2. The student-author may choose to send the thesis (or other written document arising from the Capstone) to a body of knowledge database and pay all costs of doing so.
