U.S. News ranks programs on their engagement, student excellence, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technologies by assessing graduation rate, student debt, class size, test scores, and a variety of other thorough assessments, making the U.S. News and World Report the most comprehensive evaluation to evaluate SUU’s program. U.S. News rewarded the SUU’s online MAcc program with their badge, listing it among the best online programs.

The report noted the program’s nearly 100 percent job placement rate after graduation and the opportunity for students to take classes on-campus or online as reasons for the program’s high ranking. Furthermore, the MAcc program was praised for the high satisfaction of students with their professors and the AACSB accreditation as further reasons for the ranking.

Accounting Department Chair Robin Boneck was especially excited about the school’s high rankings in engagement and student excellence, saying, “Engagement is a critical part of the missions of our accounting program, the school of business and the university, so I was very pleased to hear that we scored so high in that category. We also scored extremely well in the category of student excellence. Our hope is that we are able to increase the number of highly qualified applicants that we accept in the program.”

The aim of SUU’s Master of Accountancy program is to provide greater breadth and depth to further develop the knowledge and skills to enter professional accountancy and ultimately, provide high-quality accounting preparation for professional careers. The university has offered the program for 30 years, with the aim to help meet the 150-hour requirement to take the Certified Public Accounting exam. Both the online and on-campus programs offer the same curriculum, content, assessments, and transcripts don’t distinguish between online and on-campus classes.

Moving forward, the program has goals to expand upon their excellence and develop a program that better supports all students and takes advantage of new technology. Boneck said, “I intend to explore new technology available for online learning and investigate support structures that provide learning assistance. Overall, we are very pleased with our current ranking, but I think we can reach an even higher level by focusing on a few key areas.” As he looks to the future, Boneck concluded, “We will not only improve our current ranking but enhance the quality of our program, which is our highest priority.”
