And before any whistles are blown or scores tallied, SUU coaches and administrators gave a sneak peek into what the entire T-Bird Nation can expect from this fall’s athletic season.

Speaking to the success each athlete is competing to earn, Nick Bartlett, assistant athletic director said, “I think the success we are going to have this year is something all of our fall sports teams are looking forward to. We’re prepared for a big season.”

With tickets to each home game free for all students and SUU employees, Bartlett ensures that everyone is going to want to attend the games and get tickets early. He said, “We’re focusing on the homecoming game, and we’re bringing in a lot of fun and new entertainment. We don’t want to spoil any surprises, but you’ll want tickets early.”

Along with regular season games, the award winning cross country team will bring the entire Big Sky Conference to SUU for the 2015 championships on October 31 at the Cedar City Golf Course. The championships will bring 24 teams and 190 of the top athletes in the western U.S., according to Eric Houle, head coach of the SUU cross country team.

He went on to say, “The championships will bring national power program together all fighting for a team title and bragging rights. Never has Cedar City or Southern Utah seen this size of competition, caliber of athletes, prestige of programs and all Division I teams converge at one time for a conference championship.”

Cross country isn’t the only team hoping that a championship will spur more excitement for games, SUU’s soccer team will play off the win by the U.S. Women’s World Cup win in July. “For anyone who caught the World Cup fever with our USA team capturing the trophy, I would encourage you to come watch our SUU team,” proudly stated Becky Hogan, head soccer coach.

The excitement and expectation for each athlete continue through to the SUU football team with Ed Lamb, head coach, stating, “This is the most committed team I’ve had during my time at SUU.” What a compliment to the Football players and all the teams SUU has lined up this fall.

Coming off a successful spring exhibition games, SUU volleyball is excited to begin their season, especially with new coach Craig Choate who is preparing for his first season with the team.

“They want to do better than what they did in the past,” Choate said. “They worked really hard this spring and they were quite successful. We went up to a spring tournament, and spring is not the same as fall, but we won it. We beat BYU and we beat Idaho State and I think it opened their eyes a little bit about how good they could be and how the hard work has paid off.”
