Yahosh Bonner grew up in a dynamic musical family, excelled at basketball, and earned an SUU master’s degree in professional communication, all of which provided a solid basis for achievement. And Yahosh has certainly achieved.

Currently, he is the director of athletics at Spanish Fork, Utah’s, American Heritage School, is a television host for BYUtv, and a popular motivational speaker, singer and actor.

He grew up in a variety of spots in the Southwest and had an early exposure to SUU.

“Ever since I was in junior high and high school I looked up to college students who went to SUU, especially basketball players,” he says. “I fell in love with Cedar City when I lived there and was so excited to go back to pursue my master’s degree.”

A former collegiate cager at Salt Lake Community College and the University of Northern Colorado, while at SUU he served as the director of basketball operations under then-head coach Nick Robinson.

“In my heart, I was always a T-Bird,” he says.

His days in the communication department at SUU were marked by growth, he says, “not only as a student but as a man and a professional…what I love about SUU is that all of my professors are the kind of people that I can call on at any time in my career and they will support me with professional advice.”

He says that SUU taught him that he is more than capable to complete what at times seem impossible tasks.

His BYUtv work is as co-host of “Family Rules,” interviewing families from around the country about how they incorporate special tools to help their family dynamics.

In 2020, he starred in his first film in the title role of Green Flake, an award-winning production about a Southern slave who rose to become a Western hero.

He and his wife Vanessa are parents to three children.
