Administrative License
The Educational Leadership Program at Southern Utah University offers two options: a 36-hour program and a 27-hour program. The 36-hour program, upon completion, provides an M. Ed. degree and recommendation to USBE for the Educational Leadership License. For those that already hold a master’s degree, the 27-hour program satisfies USBE requirements for recommendation for the Educational Leadership License. This program is synchronous (not self-paced).
Through coursework and internship experiences, graduates in the SUU Educational Leadership Program will:

Satisfy requirements designed to lead to licensure for school administration in Utah and Nevada, and for a masters degree with a major in school leadership

Demonstrate competency in each of the course-based and internship-based requirements for school leadership as identified by Utah

Synthesize key elements of courses as they relate to effective leadership standards, including principals as leaders of mission, vision and improvement; ethics and professional norms; equity, inclusiveness and cultural responsiveness; learning and instruction; community leadership; operations management; and building professional capacity

Demonstrate knowledge and practice of the key roles of a school principal, including leading teaching and learning; curriculum, instruction and assessment; reflective inquiry; using data for school improvement; supervising and evaluating faculty and staff; community engagement; school budgets; conduct, student life and campus culture
Please note: Courses that do not reach enrollment of 10 may not run, and students may be given the option to join another section, or take the course in the next semester the course is offered.
Admission Requirements include:
- Utah professional educator license
- Original transcript(s)
- 3.0 GPA on last 60 credit hours of coursework
- Confidential recommendation from immediate administrative supervisor or an LEA-level administrator with knowledge regarding the individual’s potential as a school leader
- Verification of background clearance
- Copy of most current evaluation
- Orientation
- Admissions Interview
